South Africa’s top detective is to take over the Oscar Pistorius inquiry amid attempted murder accusations against current lead officer Hilton Botha.
Detective Botha was removed pending the result of an investigation into seven counts of attempted murder.
National police commissioner Mangwashi Phiyega announced the change after a third day of testimony at Mr Pistorius’s bail hearing.
Mr Pistorius, 26, denies murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29.

Join Joseph Roberts-Mensah (Kojo) – Africa Director for Wayamo Communication Foundation as he interviews ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda. The veteran public information specialist met with the ICC Prosecutor at a media training workshop organized by the German Federal Foreign Office, Wayamo Foundation and Nuremberg municipal museums last October in Nuremberg, Germany.
The media training was part of events marking the ICC’s 10th anniversary celebration, which brought together journalist from several African countries.
Events were also organized worldwide lasts year by all actors involved in the fight against impunity to celebrate the 10th anniversary the entry into force of the Rome Statute in 2002, which created the world’s first and only permanent international court to prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
